Regional Youth Development Strategic Plans and Other Youth Research

In January 2001, the Louisiana Youth Policy Network awarded seven regional planning grants of $10,000 to assist youth-serving partners in strategic planning efforts and implementation of activities for the positive development of youth. The Louisiana Youth Policy Network (LYPN), a collaboration of state-level agency partners (facilitated by the Louisiana Workforce Commission), believes that youth have much to offer, can be powerful catalysts for change, and should be actively engaged as partners in the creation of just, safe, and healthy communities.

What was the purpose of youth development regional planning grants?

The Regional Youth Development Planning grants will help regions collaborate and engage stakeholders, including youth themselves, to build a youth system that provides a range of options and opportunities for the positive development of Louisiana youth. The grants will ultimately enable regions and communities to impact the vision, guiding principles and system indicators proposed in Louisiana’s Youth Development Strategic Plan, “Investing in our Youth.” Outcomes of the initial grants:

  • Regions convened over 500 key stakeholders across the state to create a multi-year youth development strategic plan;
  • Youth in the region were engaged in these efforts
  • Regions created youth resource directories for local, regional, state, and world wide web use;
  • Regional teams of youth and adults from the region attended Louisiana’s Youth Development Institute in summer, 2001.
